How to play the memory game
All cards start face down. Each card has a twin somewhere on the board. Tap or click a card to flip it, then flip a second one. If the two pictures match, they stay face up. If they are different, both turn back over after a moment – try to remember what you saw. The level is complete when every pair is found.
The game counts your moves (one move = two flipped cards) and your time. Your best result for each level is saved in your browser, so you can come back later and try to beat it.
Levels
There are five levels: 4×3 (6 pairs), 4×4 (8 pairs), 5×4 (10 pairs), 6×5 (15 pairs) and 6×6 (18 pairs). Each level unlocks after you finish the one before. The first levels suit young children; the 6×6 board is a real test for adults. The cards are cute animal pictures and the deck is shuffled differently every game.
Tips to improve your memory score
- Work systematically. Flip unknown cards in order, row by row, instead of jumping around. It is much easier to remember positions that follow a pattern.
- Never waste the second card. If your first card shows a picture you have already seen, go straight to its twin.
- Say it in your head. Naming the picture and the position ("dog, top left") helps your brain store it.
- Use Peek wisely. Peek shows every card for one second, once per game. It is most helpful at the start of the big boards.
- The minimum. With perfect luck and memory you need as many moves as there are pairs; a good target is about 1.5 times that number.
Why play memory games?
Matching pairs, also known as Concentration or Pelmanism, is one of the oldest card games for children. It trains short-term visual memory and concentration, and it is simple enough for a toddler yet challenging on a large board. It is also a nice quiet game to play together: take turns and see who finds more pairs.
This version has no ads, no sign-up and no downloads. It works on phones, tablets and computers, and after your first visit it keeps working offline.
